Peppermint Cacao Bites

Peppermint Cacao Bites | Rawlevance.comYou can always tell when Valentine’s Day is coming up: the grocery store starts to turn pink and red and the chocolate aisle spills over into multiple aisles. It’s practically a holiday dedicated to chocolate lovers more so than real lovers. Unfortunately for me, I don’t like chocolate {yeah I know I’m nuts}. Good news for y’all, I’ve always been surrounded by chocolate lovers, so I know my way around the chocolate world. I love buying chocolate for people. Mostly because I’m a sucker for great branding and packaging, but I also love how excited people get when they have chocolate. What I don’t love is how guilty some people feel after they indulge in chocolate. There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself to something you love as long as it’s not in excess. Sure, easy said as a non-chocolate lover. That’s why I wanted to create a recipe that allows you to indulge in your chocolate cravings in a healthier manner, so meet my new raw, vegan peppermint cacao bites.

Peppermint Cacao Bites | Rawlevance.comWhat makes these peppermint cacao bites healthier than other chocolate? They are made of cacao nibs and cacao powder. Cacao is the rawest form of chocolate. To make both cacao nibs and cacao powder, cacao beans are milled at the lowest temperatures without the added sugars and fat of chocolate to preserve as much nutrients as possible. Like your favorite dark chocolate, cacao can be a bit bitter, so I’ve toned it down with peppermint extract. Peppermint extract has it’s own slew of benefits as well {see below}. Since I’m probably not a good judge for how this tastes, I’ve tested this recipe amongst friends and got the thumbs up, so hope you enjoy!

  • Happiness 🙂 {I promise I’m not making this one up} – Cacao helps stimulate the brain to release neurotransmitters that trigger feel good moods.
